Interview Outtakes: Bobby Long, Playing at the Firebird on Sunday

"Dirty Pond Songs, the debut album from English singer-songwriter Bobby Long, is a quiet album, a collection to put on when you're deep in thought or otherwise thinking about life's weightier matters. It's also an album indebted to many of Long's favorites, which he named in a recent RFT interview. (Read the rest here.)

"The Beatles, they're the best band in the world," he says, calling from Dallas. "Jeff Buckley and Neil Young and the Band. I really love Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly and people like that. I love old blues guys as well. Howlin' Wolf."

Bobby Long Interview

"Bobby Long and I are sitting in front of a restaurant in lower Manhattan just after dinner, on the second day of his second-ever time in the United States, and the British singer-songwriter-guitarist fills me in on everything from how he got started with music, to how he ended up writing the song “Let Me Sign” from the Twilight soundtrack, to why his current offering Dirty Pond Songs isn’t a proper album, to his plans for making one eventually."  Read more...

London Calling: B-Sides gets the skinny on singer songwriter Bobby Long

"First things first: Yes, Bobby Long's tune "Let Me Sign" (which he cowrote with pal Marcus Foster) is in the tween movie phenomenon Twilight, and it's sung by Long pal/sparkly vampire hunk Robert Pattinson. But the singer-songwriter and London resident is poised to transcend that novelty tag."  Read more...

Bobby Long's Twilight Moment

"Bobby Long found that it pays to know a few vampires.

The young British songwriter became friends with “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson, and his tune “Let Me Sign” was sung by the actor on the vampire film's soundtrack.Long has truly entered “The Twilight Zone,” as he went from playing open mics to selling out concert halls. Tonight, the young performer plays his first Colorado show at the hi-dive in Denver. Wonder if there's a full moon?"

Singled Out: Bobby Long

"(antiMusic) Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Bobby Long tells us about "The Bounty Of Mary Jane" from his brand new album "Dirty Pond Songs". We now turn it over to Bobby for the story:

I wrote this song during a sleepless night. I had done everything to try and sleep and was reading magazines and books, hoping my eyes would dwell on some words and knock me out. I played endless DVD commentaries, but everything seemed interesting and drew me in."

Bobby Long leaves Twilight to follow in Bob Dylan's footsteps

"Fate appears to be showing a fondness for British singer-songwriter Bobby Long. While making the rounds of open-mike nights in London, the 22-year-old tunesmith happened to befriend actor-singer Robert Pattinson, the high-haired heartthrob whose every move is studied by the hordes of followers of the Twilight film series. Ever since Long showed Pattinson a song he'd cowritten called “Let Me Sign”, things have just been getting sweeter and sweeter for him". Read more...

Music Review: Bobby Long, "Dirty Pond Songs" [EP]

"Picture yourself in a dark coffeehouse. Tom Waites is the barista, and Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan are in a back corner taking nips of absinthe when nobody is looking.

The music you hear in this imagined environment is Bobby Long's, the young man on the stage with the mic and acoustic guitar. There's an essence of the protest song in his tunes, a certainty that there's a gravitas in the dense and obtuse lyrics, and you nod affirmation as you sip your coffee (unless Bob and Lenny have passed you some of their nectar) while the notes wash over you."

The Folk Tradition runs through his blood

"Young English troubadour Bobby Long isn't a vampire in real life – apart from most Hollywood agents, who is? – but bloodsucking has given a boost to his budding career.

Long, 22, co-wrote “Let Me Sign,” the song that movie heartthrob Rob Pattinson performs in a crucial scene in “Twilight,” the hit 2008 vampire romance flick that has grossed nearly $400 million worldwide. The song isn't on Long's 2009 debut, “Dirty Pond Songs,” and he rarely does it live, though Pattinson's version is a bonus track on “Twilight's” soundtrack album."

Five Minutes and Three Songs with Bobby Long

"Those who know about Bobby will know that it all started to come together for him when he was “discovered” at the open mic nights run by London promoters Up All Night. It seemed fitting, then, that his last night in London before heading off on his Dangerous Summer Tour of America and Europe would be spent playing at an Up All Night open mic.

Unadvertised and with just a few fans in the audience, it was a lovely evening of good music and good cheer."

Relatively Unknown Musician Writes Song For Very Well-Known Movie

"You may not realize it, but Bobby Long is a musician who wrote the song "Let Me Sign" along with fellow musician Marcus Foster and actor Robert Pattinson, who also sang it for the "Twilight" soundtrack. But Bobby doesn't only write songs, he also shows off his great talent as a singer. You can also find more information about Bobby and his upcoming tour, the "Dangerous Summer Tour," by visiting his MySpace.

When did you first get interested in music and has your career so far been what you had hoped?

I was brought up with it and I just love it and love being around it. I'm happy at the moment with things but I dont feel I have done anything yet so I'm looking forward to doing an album and touring further. I'm always looking to the next thing."

Music Review: Indie Round-Up - Craig Jackson, the Iveys, Bobby Long

Bobby Long, Dirty Pond Songs

"Staying on the youth tip, here comes Bobby Long. I almost didn't listen to this CD. The black-and-white sensitive-boy cover shot, the Myspace provenance, and above all, the fact that Long, still a London college student, had become known only because Robert Pattinson sang a mush-mouthed version of a song Long co-wrote in the movie Twilight – all these factors suggested that this was overhyped fluff.

Hyped, yes. Fluff, not so much. With raw vocal power and smart, evocative lyrics, Long is a folksinger with a spirited intensity that puts him outside and above the masses of singer-songwriters roaming our cities, towns, and social networks."
