Singled Out: Bobby Long's Devil Moon
Antimusic
Posted June 12, 2013 Today Bobby Long tells us about his new single "Devil Moon" which comes from his new studio album "Wishbone". Here is the story: I wrote "Devil Moon" one night after going to a show. I watched a band play a song that had a riff I really liked. I wanted to write one that was better so I went home, and it came really fast. The premise of the song is about there being some undeniable force that casts a shadow on all your actions or gives you bad luck. I guess we all feel like that sometimes. By Jay Smith Posted on June 3, 2013 The British singer/songwriter returns to the road for a summer adventure. Traveling in support of his album, Wishbone, stops include Dallas, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Denver and San Francisco.
Bobby Long is traveling once again, reminding us just how far he’s come since ten tracks he recorded in his bedroom emerged as 2009’s Dirty Pond Songs EP. Of course, there’s the “Twilight” tie-in where the song he co-wrote with Marcus Foster – “Let Me Sign” – was sung by the film’s star Robert Pattinson. Since then he’s recorded two studio albums for ATO Records – 2011’s A Winter Tale and this year’s Wishbone. But while Long’s initial break may have come from celluloid vampires, home-taping, open-mic nights and word-of-mouth, his talent is undeniable. CONFRONT Magazine
By Michelle Normandeau Posted at May 25, 2013 ![]() Before their show in Montreal earlier this week, I got the chance to sit down with Englishman Bobby Long and his bandmates, New York City born-and-bred Joe (drummer) and Will (bassist), who were picked up just before hitting the road for the tour. In the basement of le Divan Orange, I was able to have a pretty interesting conversation about Long’s new album, Wishbone, as well as other experiences he has so far encountered throughout his career as a performing artist.
CONFRONT: What can you tell the readers about yourselves? How would you describe yourselves as a band, and as a general sound? BOBBY LONG: I think our sound has got different elements to it, you know? There’s a quieter element to the set where it’s just me playing acoustic, so that’s kind of more folky and finger-picking and then there’s the heavier stuff, which is sort of rock ‘n roll/Americana/bluesy. CONFRONT: You’re originally from England, what made you decide to make the move to New York City? BOBBY LONG: There’s a few elements, really. I just signed a record deal there and I wanted to move there to show them I was serious about what I was doing. New York’s also kind of the hub of everything. It seems like it’s the centre of the universe, especially from an Englishman’s standpoint. There’s also so much music which came from there that I love, like Leonard Cohen; he lived there. And Bob Dylan, people like that. It seemed like a good place to go. Read full interview here ...
