The Whisky A Go Go Revisted...

5 years ago today Bobby Long played  in Los Angeles, at the infamous 60's nightclub Whisky A Go Go. This was the second of 3 sold out nights in Southern California and the first time anyone on the west coast had an opportunity to see Bobby live. The show this evening was full of energy and Bobby really starting warming up to playing in front of a larger audience. It was a memorable night, and we so wish we had a video to be able to show but nothing every surfaced strangely enough. We have photos,  from the show as we take a look back at Bobby in Los Angeles. How many of you out there were at this show? Tell us your memories.

Arlene's Grocery Revisited...

April 14, 2009 marked night two of Bobby's "Tastemaker Tour" at the nostalgic Arlene's Grocery in New York City. On this tour was when Bobby released his now infamous bedroom recordings better known as "Dirty Pond Songs" The cd was only sold at shows, and if anyone remembers a fact about this EP is that the original pressing listed the tracks in reverse order on the cover, making it a unique collector's item!  Tonight we will feature the first time Bobby played "Penance Fire Blues" in the U.S. and today this song still remains a constant favorite in his set. Stayed tuned for Bobby's next stop on the tour, Los Angeles.

It Was Five Years Ago Today...

It's hard to believe, but today marks the 5 year anniversary of Bobby Long's first official tour of the U.S. aptly titled his "Tastemaker Tour", which consisted of New York, Los Angeles and Nashville. This was the first chance that many of us were able to see Bobby perform for the first time. What a memorable time this was for not only Bobby, but for his fans as well. Many fans traveled across states or country excited they were seeing him for the first time. We will be taking a look back this week at each of the shows during this tour, and sharing the videos and hopefully stories of this memorable place in time. Please feel free to comment and share a story with us from the shows.

Bobby's first show, April 13, 2009 Lakewood Lounge, New York, NY.

Then and Now "Penance Fire Blues"

This song pretty much speaks for itself. Penance Fire Blues first came on the scene 5 years ago almost to the day on March 13, 2009 at The Albany in London, so we felt this was an appropriate song to celebrate Flashback Fridays.  As we all know Penance has gone through many changes through the years, but still stays a steadfast song to this day when Bobby performs live. We will feature several videos of the transition to this classic bluesy piece, starting with his first performance in London. Segwaying into one of our favorite at the Bamboozle festival in March of 2010 when he did a combination of Penance/In my time of dying. We will also feature his time playing with the KGB band which brought a completely different style to PFB. Are one of these versions your favorite, or is there another you like even more and why?

Bobby Long Feels His Career Is Evolving

The Daily Gazette
By Jeff Wilkin
Posted February 20, 2014

It’s been 50 years, and people are still talking about the Beatles

That’s OK with Bobby Long. He hopes Americans can appreciate one more British singer.

“I feel like I’m always caught up with the Beatles,” said Long, 28, who will play WAMC’s The Linda in Albany on Friday. “Their catalog is so vast and so different ... to me, they’re the best, they’re the greatest. Especially now when good music is heard less and less on the radio.”  Long is working to be heard more and more on the radio and in concert halls. He believes he’s making strides toward future goals.

“It’s all really good,” he said of his career . “I feel like it’s evolving. I’ve always been pretty aware that for me to get to the position of my heroes, it’s going to take time. It’s really about cultivating a fan base and evolving musically, and I feel that I’m doing that.”

The local fan base will hear selections from Long’s first two albums, “A Winter Tale” and “Wishbone” when The Linda show begins at 8 p.m. He made some fans during a 2013 appearance at Larkfest; he’s in rotation at Amsterdam radio station WEXT, Exit 97.7 The “Winter Tale” album was a live recording, part acoustic with pedal steel and double bass. “Had a country-ish thing going,” Long said. “Wishbone” was electric, a harder sound with more specific guitar parts and more of Long’s own harmonies. The singer is now writing for his third release, which will expand on his folk-based origins.

Unacceptable! Bobby Long and Marcus Foster are playing in my city on the same night at different venues. This is a huge personal conundrum and IDK what to do! Who can I get to fix this?

We're still looking for something in the southwest! California to Colorado to Texas -- Since we know you're not likely to make it through our fair city--we know we'll have to travel to make it to a concert. It takes time to make plans and get time off work.........Please give us some dates soon!
